This was my first attempt at a very difficult form of vase called a moon vase. I glazed this project lightly, only adding detail swirls of green to accent its shape. A skill I learned was how to finalizes the base before you start to close because after there will be no room to change it. The art element is form in the large balloon like body, and the design element is unity, in the glaze and white seamix. I went for a simplistic view on this project trying to inspire peace and familiarity because the project was not highly complex in form.
This is a small vase with a lid. I glazed it using black and white to make contrast and used the opposite pattern for the top and base. One new skill I learned in this project was how to use the tongs to accurately fit together the case and lid. The art element in this project is color in the glazing and likewise the design element is contast. The black and white stand out at each other, showing good and evil feeling. The glazing was inspired by the signs of tiny and yang with the body haveing light more prevlint and the top having darkness. This is my tall base project, I glazed this as a test for my wheel assisted hand project and am very proud of the outcome. It's a white base with sponged on green and blue. The skill I learned making this project was how to combine glazed to improve the overall project. The art element in this one is color and the design element is rythm in the smooth runny glaze. The blue and green make it feel open, almost like and ocean, with the white undertones accenting the chearfull mood it inspires. This is my first firm based project, I was trying. To deviate from the stereotypical form of a cylinder by carving it out, post throwing. The glaze is only there to accent the carving. One new skill I learned for this project was how to carve a dry project on the wheel. The art element is form in the carving and the design element is unity. The symmetrical carvings inspire a peaceful feeling and the light glazing reminds one of a beach setting. This is my first hand assisted wheel project, the base is made of slabs and the top was made on the wheel. I glazed it with a white base and blue/green streaks. One thing I learned was you have to be more careful about square project when it comes to glazing, as they will run more than normall cylindrical projects. The art element is shape in the square base and round top. The design element is contrast in both the glazing and the overall form of the project, sharp edges meeting smooth ones leads to an abstract project, catching the eye on an onlooker. This is a small tea cup plate I created as a test. It is the first plate I ever made on the wheel. I glazed it in white with details of shadow green to draw out its symmetry. I learned how to use your backhand to flatten played without having then collapse. The art element is color in the glazing. The design element is rythm and harmony in the symmetrical glazing, to inspire peace and tanquilluty. It is overall a chearfull mood project. This is my first attempt at a double walled project, or the essence of a double walled project. It has the form of a planter however I opened all the way through, closed the inner walls, and pulled up the out layer of the planet to create a dog bowl like project. The glaze shows of the simplicity of the project with black swirls. A new skill i learned was how to close inside of a double walled project without it collapsing in on itself. The art element is form in the unique design and flow of the walls. I went for a simplistic theme on this project, I tried to play of the natural white of the seamix to enhance the detail black glaze, very similar to the king and yang symbols
This is my first large case project with typical form of a vase, skinneir bottom transitioning out than comming back in at the top. I glazed a scrap base with dark black drips. A new art skill I learned was how to compress the top of a project to make a lip, thus making it more appealing to view. The art element present is color and the design element is contrast in the glazing. I again went for a darker theme in this project. The dark base with the dark drips as shadows almost has feelings of evil that draw the observer in. My first choice project is a unique vase hybrid I created. It's features the feom of a standard case with centered indents on the side giveing it a differnt form. The color I glazed it was a green blue hybrid that turned out ok. I learned the skill of waiting a day to apply vast form changes so the clay is more sturdy. The art element is shape and form and the design element is balance in the equal layers of the project. I tried to show mystery and wonder in this projects by applying the fairly hard to apply indents around the form. This is a thrown cup and handle project. The cylindrical base is fairly standard and unified. I glazed it with a matt green and atempted to employ negative space by wiping off parts of the glaze. I learned a new skill of using different tools to smooth the seams in between the pulled handle and the clay. The art element is agin color in the glazing and the design element is negative space in the white areas wiped off. In this project, it reflected my more sad outlook using heavier colors and less contrast in colors. |
