This set of three projects were inspired by the vase in the first picture. They all are fundamentally vases with a white base glaze and green drips over top. The new skill I learned when making of these three projects, was how to coke the top of a vase to create a spout smalle me than the body. As you can see I slowly improved this technique making the spout smaller and smaller over the corse of the projects. The art element in all three is color in the layered glazed. The design element is conformity and unity. They all share similar aspects of natural events. The random green across the white imitating the winds random patterns.
These are two of my first attempts at making plates in ciramics on the wheel. I used a new technique of pulling flat rather than up to make the plate shape. The art element for both is color. The design element for both is rythm, I tried to make the glazes really stand out with one imitating the ocean with blues and greens while the other used negative space. A concept I had not worked with before. This is anouther very unique project I did. This assisted wheel project was majorly an experiment. I used a hollow circle made on the wheel and cut holes in it for flowers. I learn the skills of carving thick objects. The art element is form in the base of the project and the design element is harmony. All the holes are perfectly positioned apart and although it looks random at first glance. Upon anouther it begins to have more unity. My last bowl is very unique. What I tried to do and learned a new skill along the way. Was to make the walls very short and stocky with the accual project very wide and round. This used a whole new set of skills. My art element for this project was color in the glazing in the inside. My design element was contrast, as I used a white outside to draw attention to the darker inside. Really making a person look at the project closer. This is a large bowl I made to further my theme of nature like projects. The new skill I learened was how to use detail glaze to give a realistic representation of an object. The design element is is color in the glazing again and the art element is unity and replication. I tried to emulate a watermelon as close as I could for this project while still maintaining artistic intgreity. This gave the over all project a very interesting feel. I decided to make anouther vase for my first choice project. The new skill I learned when making it was how the pinch the top of the spout to create a small lip, leading to an overall better visual on the project. The art element for this vase is form, I was attempting to make this vase have the largest width too highth ratio of any of my projects. With I believe I achieved. The design element is harmony in the smooth form and calming glazing and colors. The light blue conjuring images of the oceans spray witch further invokes calmness on the observer. This talk project is is like the name implys my tallest project. The overall shape could be inproved in future atempts however. The new skill I learned creating this project was how to compress the lip and base and too not pull too much clay too fast, the taller it becomes the more deliberate you must be in your actions. The art element is color in the mixture of mat and shiny greens and Browns that mix along my project. The design element is unity, the nature like form and color of the glaze inspiring visions of trees and forests. This is a unique project, the base and form is a typical bowl. However the glazing was done diferently than I have before. The new skill I learned was how to paint on usin detail glaze to make designs on a project. The art element is color in the glazing inspirin contrast and inducing the random images painted in the side. The design element is one of spontaneity and randomness, the images depicted have no real corilation and a this draw the look to make his own connections. This creates a very interactive peice of art. This is the my attempt at changing the way I normally make bowls. I artempted to create this one so the over all form was rounder while still maintaining its integrity as a bowl rather than a vase. One skill I learned from this process was how to use a brush to create texture lines on the project. The art element present in this project is the color depicted by the glazing. The design element is unity and contrast in the colors of the glaze creating a harsh difference between the matt black and the shiny blue to draw the observers eye. This is my tree inspired plate, it is not wheel thrown rather is a mix of red and normall clay in a slab roller than formed into a plate. A new skill I learned makeing it was how hard you have to press on an imprinted to make the design fully get put into the project. The art element is form in the complex design stamped on it as well as color in the red/ white clay. The design element is rythm, in the design. This project was inspired by a trees bark and the design was ment to imitate that, as such it holds a naturistic vibe, inspiring calm. |
