This is a pot I found online that has really inspired me to work on using negative space in my projects. I really enjoy the white without glaze as to not distract from the pot itself and highlighting the work done on the top. I hope to make many projects like this in the coming year.
This was my favorite work from the Seattle Art Museum. All the bones are made of blown glass and there form is made to look like the top of an elk or other horned animal. Its message is one of death and how we are hunting to many of the animals in our world to death and if we don't stop we will join them. Shown by the human skulls littering the ground.
I don't know what to say about this glass blown sculpture, it is almost whimsical in nature. Taking a seemingly random form of childlike shapes. The is many shades of color yet most do not have contrast with each other, rather it is the form and the negative space of the object that draws in the onlooker. I feel that Ginny Ruffner was trying to point a finger at childhood with this piece and show how unique and magical it is.
This work is the entrance piece to the Seattle Art Museum. I did not see a plaque referring to it so I do not know much as to its creation. The bright lights create a contrast to the car, and while they seem to be randomly placed upon closer inspection the all are positioned as to draw the eye to the enter of the car. While I am unsure, I think this piece could be alluding to the deaths cars can cause and honoring those who have died in such crashes.
This sculpture uses form as its art element. Its smooth texture also plays a role it drawing the eye to the only object with sharp edges, the center gem. The white stone is at contrast with the gem making its deep blue color stand out. I believe this piece is trying to inspire tranquility and peace in the viewer.
This is a famous sculpture from the Seattle Art Museum done by James Rosenquist. It emphasizes the negative space between the wire and draws your attention too the neon lighting tube by contrasting it with the dreary background. It is said the harsh, sporadic nature of the piece is representative of the political turmoil happening in the government in the 1960s
